Il fut le fils aîné de William Waldorf et de Mary Dahlgren, la fille de James William Paul et d'Hannah, née Bunker.
1879, il naquit à New York aux États-Unis et ses dix premières années passèrent à voyager et à vivre en Europe.
1889, sa famille s'installa en Angleterre.
1905, il rencontra sur un paquebot une divorcée, Nancy Shaw, née Langhorne.
1906, il épousa Nancy et il reçut en cadeau de mariage le château de Cliveden dans le comté de Buckinghamshire.
1910-1918, il remporta l'élection en tant que Parti conservateur ou unioniste pour la circonscription de Plymouth lors des élections générales de décembre 1910.
1911, il convainquit son père de fournir les fonds nécessaires à l’achat du journal The Observer.
1915, son père lui céda la propriété du journal.
1916, lorsque son ami David Lloyd George devint Premier ministre, il fut son secrétaire privé parlementaire.
1952, il mourut au château de Cliveden dans le comté de Buckinghamshire en Angleterre
