Note
The son of a Minnesota congressman, Charles Lindbergh worked as a traveling stunt flier and an airmail pilot before becoming the first person to make a nonstop solo flight across the Atlantic. Celebrated as a national hero upon return, he married and began flying with his wife as his copilot. Tragedy struck, however, in 1932 when the Lindbergh's 20-month old son was kidnapped and murdered in one of America's most notorious crimes. Charles Lindbergh would eventually write a Pulitzer Prize winning autobiography and become a spokesperson for environmental conservation.
