Became Regent after the death of King Solomoni I, he seized the throne and proclaimed himself King with the reign name of Davit II, 4th May 1784. Forced to abandon his throne when attacked by King Irakli II of Georgia, but returned when the latter faced an invasion by the Turks. Continued in rebellion until 1792, when he retreated into Russia, and was allowed to settle at Akhaltzykh. m. H.M. The Most High Queen Ana (b. 17th July 1765 o.s.; d. at Moscow, 4th June 1832 o.s., bur. Donskoï Monastery), who abandoned her children, was received with honour at Moscow and appointed as Governor (Pravitelnitza) of Mingrelia, rcvd: GC of the Order of St Catherine of Russia, daughter of General H.E. Prince Mamuka Jambakur-Orbeliani, by his wife, the youngest daughter of General His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Giorgi Kvenipneveli-Sidamoni, Duke of Ksani. He d. from smallpox while in exile at Akhaltzykh, 1795 (bur. Chkhar)

The Most Brilliant Princess Mariami-Thamar. b. 1781. m. before 1800, Prince Svimeon Shirvashidze, youngest son of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Giorgi Shirvashidze, Duke in Guria, by his wife, Her Splendour The Pious Princess of High Rank Khwarashan, daughter of the Duke of Radsha. She d. after 1833, having had issue, two sons and four daughters - see Georgia (Shirvashidze).
